NASSAU, NP – Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) Chairman Dr. Donovan Moxey announced on April 8, 2019, that BPL would be donating two thousand dollars to Stephen Dillet Primary School on Windsor Lane. The money will fund new computers to complement the new library commissioned on Monday at the Bain Town school, home of the Marlins.
Dr. Moxey made the announcement as a surprise guest of the keynote speaker at the dedication, Ms. Charlyne Sealey, President of the Rotary Club of Nassau. Ms. Sealey and her fellow Rotarians funded the library’s construction and stocking, and BPL has agreed to partner with the school to fund the computers and also to buy books to facilitate studies in the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.
“I remember when I was a young child, I was stimulated by looking at books about science, and space, and chemistry, and all of those things ignited my fire to become an engineer. So we at BPL want to pass that same ignition – if you will – forward to the students of Stephen Dillet Primary School.
“So what we’re committed to doing is, we will start by donating $2,000 to this library,” he said, touting the power of books to spark imagination and give children the space to let their minds roam. “We at BPL, being right around the corner and in this community, are happy to be a part of this effort…We want to be involved in shaping young minds here in The Bahamas.”
