SOME PERMANENT SECRETARY & FINANCIAL OFFICERS ARE OBSTRUCTING PROGRESS
A chorus of frustration has been echoing through the public about the sluggish pace of the public service. While this does not apply to everyone, it’s a sentiment repeated so often that it’s become a mantra. The political operatives left behind after Minnis’s departure are often blamed for this intentional delay, leading to a widespread feeling of irresponsibility on the part of the government.
The Davis New Day government has been relentless in its efforts to address the country’s issues and alleviate the tension left by the previous administration. Their proactive approach is a beacon of hope for many.
But while Davis and his Ministers are working overtime to help people, the Permanent Secretaries and the Financial Officers are interfering in the most straightforward process, nitpicking where none is needed to frustrate vendors and cause some to be disgruntled.
It is Davis’s compassionate personality that has prevented some government top brass from being transferred or forced to face the wall. In past FNM governments, many ‘kept personnel ‘, referring to employees who were retained despite their lack of productivity, were told to sit at a desk with nothing to do until they quit.
For a victory in 2026 to be a reality, it’s crucial to ask the tough questions. This is not the time to let emotions cloud our judgment. It’s time to remove the obstacles that have long frustrated the public and the system.
