Time is drawing nigh, and this time there is truly no excuse.
Time is drawing nigh, and this time there is truly no excuse.
The distinguished Harrison Thompson, Parliamentary Commissioner, has issued clear and repeated calls urging all eligible voters to register or transfer before it is too late. These reminders have not been vague, rushed, or last-second—they have been steady, consistent, and unmistakable.
Let us be honest with ourselves: we are a last-minute people. But even with that reality, no one can fairly fault the Parliamentary Office if these constant reminders are ignored. The responsibility now rests squarely with the voter.
Commissioner Thompson has brought a much-needed sense of calm to the process. His track record speaks for itself. His mild-mannered, even-tempered, and steady disposition is exactly what this moment demands—especially when we have already seen a glimpse of the political turbulence being stirred by opposition parties. When uncertainty threatened, Thompson quelled the storm with smooth, firm decisions that stood up to scrutiny and could not be credibly disputed.
History matters. And if Commissioner Thompson’s history is any indication, then the process will be fair, orderly, and sound—provided the public does its part.
I therefore urge every eligible Bahamian to be proactive. Hurry and get registered. Transfer your residence if needed. Do not give anyone reason to challenge your vote or question your eligibility. Democracy works best when preparation meets opportunity.
No one knows the hour or the day. So be ye also ready.
Your voice matters, your vote certainly matters, but only if it is properly registered.
