BUS DRIVER ACCUSED OF RAPING TEEN

A bus driver accused of statutory rape was yesterday refused bail.

Nathaniel Ferguson, 24, of Mermaid Boulevard, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney accused of the rape of a female minor of 14.

Ferguson was not required to enter a plea to the charge and was remanded to prison.

He returns to court on May 10 when it is expected the matter will be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court by a voluntary bill of indictment.

Ferguson, a former Supreme Court bailiff, was recently placed on one year’s probation by the same court after he stabbed another bus driver after a traffic accident on East Bay Street on February 7.

It all began when Ferguson ran into Burnside’s bus while attempting to overtake him on East Bay Street. Both men got out of their vehicles and Ferguson swung at Burnside with a utility knife and slashed his back.

McKinney fined Ferguson $2,500 or one year in prison and he was ordered to compensate Burnside $600.

Inspector Philip Davis prosecuted.
