At a time when our ambassadors, taxi drivers, and tour operators are often subjected to unfair criticism and relentless negative pressure, moments arise that remind us why The Bahamas still gleams with pride.
This is one such moment.
Deputy Director General of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. Dr. R. Kenneth Romer recently shared a heart-warming encounter that unfolded quietly—without cameras, applause, or expectation.
“Yesterday afternoon,” Romer recalled, “veteran taxi driver and hospitality professional Philip Hanna, affectionately known as Dr. Phil, stopped by my office unannounced.”
He did not come seeking assistance.
He did not come asking for recognition.
He came to return a purse—containing cash and valuables—that a cruise visitor had accidentally left behind in his taxi.

With complete trust, Dr. Phil handed over the item, confident it would be reunited with its rightful owner. The process is now actively underway, with everything accounted for.
Most telling of all, he refused both rewards and praise.
Most telling of all, he refused both rewards and praise.
His only motivation, he said, was to do what was right by God and right by his fellow man.
This, unmistakably, is what makes it “Better in The Bahamas.”
Not simply our sun, sea, or sand—but our people.
People who live by integrity.
People who understand that tourism is not just an industry—it is a shared responsibility.
In a world hungry for honesty and decency, Dr. Phil reminded us who we are at our best.
Thank you, Dr. Phil.
You have done your country proud.
