PLP CAN SQUANDER THE SUPPORT IT HAS
The PLP is in an enviable position. They won by a landslide and enjoyed a very progressive government working assiduously to improve the lives of most Bahamians.
Under the progressive leadership of the Davis-led government, the Bahamas has not merely maintained the status quo but has propelled itself towards a brighter future. Honest Bahamians can attest to the significant initiatives implemented, with even more promising projects on the horizon.
The airports in Cat Island, Exuma, and Grand Bahama, as well as upgrades in other family islands, are a testament that people will be changed when interacting with family members from island to island.
In the face of criticism from the jealous opposition, Dr Michael Darville has ignored the naysayers by building a new hospital in Grand Bahama, repairing and upgrading clinics on all family islands and taking a bold initiative to create a spanking new hospital in New Providence.
Children have a hot breakfast to start their day, setting the learning stage. More Bahamians own a piece of the rock, with so many homes already built and more to come, a feat that the opposition is embarrassed about because they did none.
But these beautiful achievements are not enough to guarantee victory at the polls. There are too many moving parts.
The PLP’s Achilles heel is that a faction is working with the opposition by chipping away at the popularity gained that caused the 2017 victory. The infighting, backbiting, and hoggishness displayed are turning off some and disgusting others.
This new monster of greed, which has engulfed supporters and has them competing with other supporters who brag about what contracts they have, will erode the confidence and enthusiasm that ushered in the recent victory.
The other daemon hiding in the cover of darkness are supporters working underground to undermine Members of Parliament and positioning themselves to replace a sitting member. They work sheepishly in neighbourhoods, badmouthing the present representative, which alone may not topple the government but could diminish the comfortable majority we now enjoy.
Greed will be the PLP’s downfall if the party does not have a “coming to Jesus” moment.
The PLP will be unwise if they squander this fantastic opportunity to regain power so that the country can continue on course. The people interfering in these communities with skulduggery must cease; they have succumbed to selfishness and gluttony.
We must adopt the attitude of the leader, Philip Brave Davis. He is a compassionate man who would instead resolve any differences, resulting in a pleasant atmosphere in which we all can thrive.
Now is not the time for division but for unity. Our collective strength and cohesion will ensure our future victory.
