The Free National Movement has officially slammed the door on Former DPM K. Peter Turnquest’s candidacy in East Grand Bahama as a potential snap election draws near.
Turnquest sent a note to constituents overnight via WhatsApp as they prepared to go on the campaign trail today.
The note to East Grand Bahama constituents last night/February 5th, 2021:
“Colleagues, By now you would have no doubt heard the report that I have been advised by the Party leader that I will not receive the nomination for East Grand Bahama. I assume that Council will give final confirmation or otherwise on that decision at its next sitting. With that position having been put, I will not join you tomorrow and have put all campaign activities on hold. Wishing you all the very best of events.”
Both Dr. Hubert Minnis and K. Peter Turnquest had a strained relationship that went south in November 2020, which resulted in the DPM being forced to resign from the cabinet.
Turnquest, Former Deputy Prime Minister, resigned his cabinet post with this statement in part:
“As a consequence of all the unfounded and untrue claims that have been circulating in the mainstream press as well as in social media, to protect my family, and in the best interest of my Constituency and my Party, I have offered my resignation as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance to the Prime Minister with immediate effect.”
